Miss NI Emma Carswell (ambassador for Mencap), Eilis McNamee (Deep RiverRock) and Johnny Hero (U105 Presenter) join forces with Daisy and Carole Tumelty (centre) to encourage everyone to sign up to the 4th Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon as their Summer Challenge in a bid to raise much needed funds for Official Charity Mencap.
With only a few days left of school and holidays looming, what are your plans for keeping fit this Summer? The organisers of the Belfast City Marathon are encouraging you to participate in their 4th Half Marathon joining over 3,500 people on the streets of Belfast on Sunday 18th September 2016.
The event has grown in popularity and is now one of the largest participatory Half Marathon events in Ireland – but why choose Belfast? The route is fast, relatively flat and bypasses many famous landmarks of Belfast City.
To help “twist your arm,” the organisers enlisted the help of Miss NI Emma Carswell and U105 Presenter Johnny Hero, both keen ambassadors of official charity Mencap.
Emma said: ““I am delighted to be able to show my support for Mencap just in time for the half marathon! Staying fit is really important to me. For anyone who is looking to stay active there is no better way to challenge yourself than by taking part in an event like the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Half Marathon on behalf of a great cause like Mencap.
“I encourage members of the public, even if they haven’t taken part in a race like this before, to get out there, start training and #DoIt4Mencap this September! Running 13.1 miles is not easy, but when you cross that finish line, it’s so rewarding to know all the training has paid off, and that your efforts will help Mencap continue the incredible work it does in our local community.”
The event will start at 9am on Ormeau Embankment and finish on the driveway to the Tennis Centre. There will be plenty of fun activities, food and drink to entertain your family and friends while they wait.
