Schools across Northern Ireland are being asked to hold a Festive Footwear Day in the run up to Christmas to help raise funds for Mencap.
Many children and young people with a learning disability in Northern Ireland get a great start in life with Mencap’s support and our team believe this is a simple and fun way to raise awareness and funds for the new Mencap Centre, which will open in January.
As part of its new charity partnership with Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon, Mencap has launched its Fit Fashion Feet competition, aimed at young fashionistas and designers who fancy having a go at design a special marathon sock.
Now, schools are being encouraged to get involved and Mencap’s Leah McCourt said; “We’re asking our local schools to hold a Festive Footwear Day to help raise funds for Mencap so we can help even more children with a learning disability get a great start in life.
“We want the schools to pick a day as we approach Christmas, encourage all their pupils to wear festive socks or shoes and donate to Mencap.
“Then we want everyone to send us their pics through Twitter and Facebook, using the hashtag #festivefeet4mencap so we can share them with everyone!
“We can’t wait to see everyone with their funky festive footwear and hopefully the season of giving strikes a chord with the children involved.”
