Jordan started running with his friend and fellow Mencap ambassador James Martin a few months ago and is gearing up to take part in the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon on Monday 1 May. Jordan attended Mencap’s Nursery as a child and knows first hand how important it is to fundraise for Mencap to help more children and young people with learning disabilities in Northern Ireland.
1.Why have you decided to take part in 2017’s Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon?
I started running a few months ago with the Falcons’ Running Club and enjoyed it. I would like to help raise some money for Mencap whilst challenging myself to a leg of the marathon.
2.Why have you become an official ambassador for Mencap? Do you have any personal connections to the charity?
I have become an ambassador for Mencap because they support people like me with learning difficulties to live more fulfilling lives. i attended the Mencap Nursery at Segal House when I was a toddler.
3.Mencap is the official charity partner of the 2017 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon. We want to encourage others to get active for Mencap – what reasons would you give other people to encourage them to take on a Marathon challenge and fundraise for Mencap in the 2017 Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon?
It is really good for your health and you meet new friends and have fun.
4.What would be your top reason why people should get involved and #StepUp4Mencap and what are your tips for staying active?
To raise money for Mencap’s work. To stay active join sport clubs. I am a member of a running club, a tag rugby club, a tennis club, a gymnastic club, a football club and a golf club.
5.What are your best words of advice for someone who is taking on a big challenge, like the marathon for Mencap?
Be determined and do your best.
