As Superhero fever hits cinemas with the release of the latest Avengers movie, Downtown Radio and Cool FM’s children’s charity Cash For Kids is calling on Northern Ireland’s Mightiest Heroes to join a ‘Marvel-lous’ fundraising event to help them support Mencap Northern Ireland’s Big Step Forward Campaign.

Cash for Kids Superhero Day is one of the charity’s biggest campaigns of the year, and takes place on-air with Downtown Radio and Cool FM from 6th-8th May. The campaign gives every Clark Kent and Peter Parker a chance to unleash their super alter-ego by dressing up in their best superhero outfit at work or school or by being a ‘hero for hire’ – doing good deeds in return for a charity donation. Whether that’s dog-walking, helping with a neighbour’s shopping or being sponsored to do the lunch run in work.

Cash for Kids Charity Manager Stephanie Laverty explained, “Cash for Kids Superhero Day is a massive day of fundraising for both stations and this year we’re calling on people across Northern Ireland to get involved by being sponsored to wear their favourite superhero costume as they go about their daily business or by raising money by being a super-bob-a-job!”

Vanessa Elder, Regional Fundraising Manager, Mencap in Northern Ireland said, “We’re delighted that this year all proceeds from Cash for Kids Superhero Day will go to The Big Step Forward Appeal, which is raising vital funds towards our new Children and Families’ centre on the site of the former Newtownbreda Primary School in Belfast.

“The new Children and Families’ Centre is an ambitious and important project for Mencap in Northern Ireland. The Centre will encourage the development and independence of children and young people with a learning disability, as well as providing their families with the emotional and practical support they need. This support from Cash for Kids will provide a ‘super’ valuable boost in helping us reach our goal of opening the centre in January 2016.”

To register your place as part of Cool FM’s Legion of Lycra or declare your availability as a ‘Hero for Hire’ go to www.coolfm.co.uk/superhero and sign up to receive your full fundraising pack.
